LITTLEWICK GREEN 1ST X1 v LITTLE MARLOW 1ST X1

Saturday 25th August 2007

A weak Little Marlow 1st X1 suffered an ignominious defeat at Littlewick Green.

Batting first, they were summarily dismissed for 95, with Iain Angus’s painstaking and undefeated 26 the only noteworthy contribution. Turner bowled well to record figures of 4 for 34 from 15 overs.

The hosts lost openers Selkirk and Simon Fuller with just 24 runs on the board, but Mark Snape (47*) and Adrian Hurley (25*) made sure there were no further alarms.

LITTLE MARLOW 2ND X1 v HOLYPORT 2ND X1

Saturday 25th August 2007

Little Marlow 2nds’ battle to avoid relegation received a major boost when they defeated league leaders Holyport.

Having elected to bat, the visitors were held in check by disciplined bowling before an undefeated 40 by Mark Francis, who received excellent support from Samuels (25*) during a defiant ninth wicket stand, ensured Littlewick had something to bowl at. The innings closed on 173 for 8.

When the hosts began their reply Steve Shore superglued himself to the crease while Dave Armitage gradually began to play with greater freedom at the other end. The pair posted 37 for the first wicket before Andy Findlay replaced Shore. He and Armitage took the score to 95, at which point Head bowled the latter for a fine 61.

Findlay (29) and Les Ryan (24) then shared 34 to put their team in sight of the line. However, a predictable clatter of wickets rang alarm bells before a 6 wickets victory was recorded with 2 balls in hand.

Next Saturday Little Marlow face a potentially decisive encounter against Wraysbury, just 2 points above them in 8th place.

KNOTTY GREEN v LITTLE MARLOW

Sunday 26th August 2007

Little Marlow’s Sunday team lost a close and enjoyable contest at Knotty Green.

Inserted on a slow, low pitch the visitors were indebted to two of their youngest players for ensuring a competitive total. Opener Ben Bryant made a solid 26 and shared 44 for the fourth wicket with Jack Gray, who went on to a well-paced 41. Skipper Andy West contributed an important 21 to his side’s 173 for 8 declared before carelessly running himself out.

Knotty lost wickets at regular intervals, but Abbott’s half-century kept them in the hunt before Will Hoult’s undefeated 30, together with 20s from Grant and Sutcliffe, secured a 2 wickets win. Brian Robinson bowled with his familiar control and guile to snare another 3 victims. He was well supported by Danny Finlay, who took a brace of skyers at deep mid-wicket, and Paul Slatter, who took a good, low catch at extra cover.
