LITTLE MARLOW v GLAXO SMITHKLINE

Saturday 19th April 2008

Little Marlow and Glaxo Smithkline’s players deserved medals for completing their 40 overs per side contest in arctic-like conditions at the Bradish Ellames Recreation Ground. In the circumstances dropped catches were perhaps to be expected but, as usual, they proved to be costly as the visitors chased down a 157 runs target.

Pacquette guided his team to a 4 wickets victory with an undefeated half-century, following scores of 30 odd from Dunham and R. Pershad. Mansoor Hussain (2-25) was Little Marlow’s most successful bowler, although leg-spinner Imran Ali deserved much more than his single victim as he suffered more than anyone from missed chances. Mike Bath continued his encouraging start to the season by contributing 33 towards the host’s 156 for 9, while skipper Arfan Sharif made 32. Thomas (3-37) and Jean-Jacques (2-17) bowled well.

LITTLE MAROW v WOOBURN NARKOVIANS

Sunday 20th April 2008

Little Marlow and Wooburn Narkovians enjoyed a closely fought 35 overs per side local derby at the Bradish Ellames Ground on Sunday. The visitors ran out narrow victors when they successfully defended their 207 for 2, Rogers (87) having shared partnerships of 97 and 85 with Paul Cooper (36) and James White (58*). Both wickets fell to fine catches, by Nigel Matthews and Andy West.

Little Marlow appeared to be in the pound seats when Tahir Rashid and Matthews batted beautifully to post 137 for the opening stand. However, after White bowled a tired Matthews for 51, the game became finely balanced.

When Rashid swung across the line and departed leg before to White at 157 for 4 Wooburn held the upper hand, but Piet Kruger’s powerfully struck 22 kept Little Marlow in the hunt. Left-arm quickie Tennant then returned to clean bowl him with his first delivery and, after that, wickets fell in rapid succession as the hosts desperately tried to maintain the asking rate.

They finished 10 runs short, on 198 for 8.

FLACKWELL HEATH UNDER 15s v LITTLE MARLOW ACADEMY X1

Sunday 20th April 2008

Little Marlow’s new junior team took its bow with a 20 overs per side friendly at Flackwell Heath’s Green Dragon Road ground and, although outgunned by an older and more experienced outfit, produced a couple of fine individual performances.

Having been inserted, the visitors struggled against tidy bowling, especially from left-arm spinner Digby who took 3 for 7. However, from 34 for 6 Billy Hunter provided ‘thou shalt not pass’ support to the extremely impressive 12-year-old Zain Gill. They nearly doubled the total before the latter’s gutsy innings of 32 ended in the final over. He returned to enthusiastic applause, as did Hunter who remained defiant to the close.

Flackwell knocked off the 68 runs target with relative ease, but not before wicket keeper Jack Taylor held a fine catch, diving forward to grasp the ball inches from the ground as it looped towards him off a top edge. That was the first of two victims for Andrew St Maur.

Opener Piasko made 28 as the hosts won by 8 wickets.
